Featured Artists: July 2024
From July 1 to August 3, 2024, the gallery will showcase works by Keith Buswell, Shanna Fliegel, and Marcella Hackbardt. This exhibition, titled That Which Connects Us…, explores themes of community and connection through the imagery of trees. Each artist brings a unique perspective:

  • Keith Buswell invites viewers to reflect on their connections to heritage and community through his depictions of local trees.

  • Shanna Fliegel uses vibrant colors in her clay prints and drawings to examine how environments influence human experiences of safety and healing.

  • Marcella Hackbardt’s photographic series, My Rooms, investigates the complexities of identity and memory through staged and digitally composed images.

Previous Exhibitions

The gallery frequently rotates its exhibitions, showcasing a variety of artistic styles and themes. For example, from May 13 to June 22, 2024, Wayne Bertola, Jeremy Mudd, and Ardine Nelson presented their works, each exploring different narratives and emotional landscapes through their art.

Additionally, the 2023 Fine Art Student Juried Exhibition highlighted student work from Sinclair’s fine arts program, allowing students to gain exposure and experience in a professional gallery setting.

Educational Mission and Community Engagement

The mission of the Works on Paper Gallery aligns with Sinclair Community College’s broader goal of fostering artistic development. The gallery not only provides a space for exhibitions but also engages the community through educational programs, artist talks, and workshops. This commitment to education is reflected in initiatives like the Student Purchase Awards, where selected student artworks are added to the college’s collection, enhancing the institution’s artistic resources.

In summary, the Works on Paper Gallery is a dynamic space that not only celebrates the medium of paper in art but also fosters community engagement and artistic growth, making it a vital part of Sinclair Community College’s cultural offerings.
