The Founders’ Vision

Dominique Lévy and Brett Gorvy bring decades of experience to their partnership. Lévy’s background includes roles at Christie’s, founding L&M Arts with Robert Mnuchin, and running her eponymous gallery. Gorvy, formerly the Chairman and International Head of Post-War and Contemporary Art at Christie’s, is renowned for his expertise in 20th and 21st-century art.

Together, they have created a gallery that combines curatorial excellence with market savvy, offering a unique approach to exhibiting and selling art.

A Diverse Program

Lévy Gorvy represents a carefully curated roster of contemporary artists and estates, including:

  • Yves Klein
  • Pierre Soulages
  • Pat Steir
  • Günther Uecker
  • Chung Sang-Hwa
  • Carol Rama

The gallery is also known for its expertise in secondary market sales, handling works by modern masters such as Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, and Andy Warhol.

Global Expansion

Lévy Gorvy has strategically expanded its presence worldwide:

  • New York: The gallery’s flagship location at 909 Madison Avenue
  • London: A space in the historic Old Bond Street
  • Hong Kong: A 2,500-square-foot gallery in the St. George’s Building
  • Paris: An intimate space in the Marais district

Each location is carefully chosen for its historical significance and architectural merit, reflecting the gallery’s commitment to presenting art in thoughtfully designed spaces.

Lévy Gorvy distinguishes itself by offering more than just exhibition spaces. The gallery functions as a cultural hub, hosting events such as poetry readings and performances. Their Hong Kong location, for instance, includes a library and is envisioned as a “think tank” for art appreciation and education.

Scholarly Approach

The gallery is committed to advancing art historical research and scholarship. Lévy Gorvy regularly publishes exhibition catalogs, monographs, and other key publications, contributing to the broader discourse in the art world.

Market Influence

Lévy Gorvy has established itself as a major player in the international art market. The gallery participates in major art fairs worldwide and has been instrumental in shaping collections and influencing market trends. Notable sales include a Willem de Kooning painting for $35 million at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2018.

A New Chapter: LGDR

In 2021, Lévy Gorvy announced a merger with Salon 94 and Amalia Dayan to form LGDR. This new venture aims to offer a broader range of services, including strategic advice to collectors, artists, institutions, and private companies. The merger signals a shift in the traditional gallery model, adapting to the changing landscape of the art world.

Looking to the Future

As the art world continues to evolve, Lévy Gorvy remains at the forefront of innovation. Whether operating under its original name or as part of LGDR, the gallery’s commitment to artistic excellence, scholarship, and market expertise ensures its continued influence in shaping the future of contemporary art.

From its thoughtfully curated exhibitions to its global presence and market savvy, Lévy Gorvy has established itself as a true powerhouse in the world of contemporary art. As it continues to adapt and grow, the gallery remains dedicated to its founding principles of presenting the finest art to a global audience while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of artistic practices.
