A Unique Space for Artistic Expression

The Front boasts a distinctive four-room layout and a backyard, allowing for an impressive capacity of up to 60 shows per year[2]. This unique configuration provides ample opportunities for diverse artistic expressions and curatorial visions to flourish.

Current Exhibition

From August 10 to September 8, 2024, The Front is hosting an exciting new exhibition[1]. Art lovers can attend the opening reception on Second Saturday, August 10, from 6-10pm. For those who can’t make the opening night, the gallery maintains regular open hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm[1].

Featured Artists and Programming

This month’s exhibition showcases the works of several talented artists:

  • Carey Lamprecht presents “WHO THEY ARE,” a collection of oil paintings on linen and graphite & white charcoal drawings on paper. Lamprecht’s work explores the vulnerability and humanity of live figurative models, striving to capture more than just likeness but also the essence of the subject’s consciousness and soul[1].
  • Trenity Thomas exhibits “Little Me Would be Proud,” a series that combines painting and photography. Thomas’s artistic journey, which began in 2nd grade, reflects her growth and self-expression through various mediums[1].
  • The Front is also hosting artist talks on Saturday, September 7th at 2pm, featuring both Lamprecht and Thomas. This event provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to gain deeper insights into the artists’ processes and inspirations[1].

Mission and Impact

The Front’s mission extends beyond merely showcasing art. It aims to provide support and visibility to professional and emerging artists, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and women artists[2]. By doing so, The Front actively contributes to a more inclusive and diverse art scene in New Orleans.

Over its 16-year history, The Front has gained significant recognition for its efforts. The gallery has been invited to participate in projects at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and its exhibitions have been featured in prestigious publications such as Art in America, Art Forum, and ARTNews[2].

Accessibility and Community Engagement

The Front is committed to making art accessible to all. While the gallery is working towards improving its physical accessibility, it currently offers various entry points to accommodate different needs[2]. The organization’s dedication to community engagement is evident in its free admission policy and regular Second Saturday opening receptions.

The Front stands as a testament to the power of grassroots, artist-led initiatives in shaping a city’s cultural landscape. By providing a platform for innovative, experimental, and diverse artistic voices, The Front continues to play a crucial role in the post-Katrina resurgence of New Orleans’ art scene. Whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or a curious newcomer, a visit to The Front promises an enriching and thought-provoking experience that captures the essence of contemporary art in the Big Easy.
